i got this emaiL, asking me to forward it if i agree... i don't. in fact it sickens me. but i figured i'd share it here, as i'm sure some of you whoLeheartedLy agree
-----------------------------------------------------

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants.. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because men and women, of
principle, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools and on our money. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it!

Obviously a clueless individual....

However...

I never really understand why people do move here and then don't assimilate into the "culture"...I, for one, would not move to France without learning how to speak French (as well as learning how to not shower regularly and surrender at the earliest opportunity)...

i assume you're referring to the Letter writer as cLueLess.. i agree with the Language part to an extent. when i think of the peopLe who don't or refuse to Learn our Language, i never think of french speakers or german speakers, but spanish, haitian creoLe, and other Languages of 3rd worLd countries. i think some portion of these don't have the oppurtunity for "cLasses" or know how to get them. the majority i beLieve, come here, and end up Living in an area popuLated by their ethnicity, and just become comfortabLe (Lazy, but aLso content in the safety of their own peopLe). i'm not trying to justify, i'm not, i beLieve u shouLd Learn the Language.. (except for me; if i traveL i demand engLish speakers be provided to me)

the thing that sickens me about that articLe was the "Love it or Leave it" (that's probLy a good description) attitude. i Love my country; i Love my freedom; i Love my high paying job; i Love the oppurtunities afforded to me as a white maLe; and one thing i Love, Love, Love about this country, is that we are constantLy evoLving, and adjusting our Laws and norms over time.

Pfft, the guy who wrote the letter is on the same level as muslim militants who keep on barking about how the world and its backward ideas keep on intruding onto their culture and they should stay the fuck out or they get jihady on their asses.

The same tired people only under a different flag.

Although I do somewhat agree with the language part.
But I tend to think of it as everytime a new culture is assimilated into our own, it also adds to the richness of our culture.
Our national language becomes more richer when you can splice in...spanish words every now and then like "comprende?""por favor" and "loco!" and so on and so on :D

Yes, the letter write is an ignoramus...

However, from a purely intellectual point of view, I can understand the anger behind allowing something stupid like having this woman cover her face for a driver's license picture. How about we all do this? We can be a nation of people that cover our faces on a card meant to identify who we are and that we are licensed to legally drive. Better yet, how about we all wear masks? My personal religion allows me to wear a Darth Vader helmet...do you suppose I should get to have it as my driver's license picture? There is no common sense in the world...

I mean, really...look at the idiot letter writer preach...

"In God We Trust" is our national motto."

Okay...who's God are you trusting? And trust him to do what? Find your car keys? Feed the dog while you're on vacation?

No common sense...

in england, there is constant debating all the time regarding 'immigrants' etc. and political correctness as far as patriotism goes.
likewise, for someone to hold an english or british flag here, you would be called racist by certain sectors of the public.
i mean, come on, how daft and how far does this have to go???
where i do agree with the writer, and John aswell, is that anyone wishing to apply to live in another country with a different language, surely must at least attempt to be part of their new community, and to fit in with the existing culture - and most definitely at least learn the f*cking language.
this is what i find sad, people as a whole ain't bothered who lives where, and who comes from where, and what they do etc. but to go against country traditions etc. is downright arrogant and selfish, and it does piss me off a bit - is it really that hard to adapt to another country's way of life, especially as you have CHOSE to live there????
this is one of those endless debates, and no doubt our great great great great grandchildren will be discussing the same thing years down the line.

Of course people schould integrate somehow if they choose to live in another country. Learning the language schould be the first thing to do.

Traditions, religion and clothes thats something different. As long as you stay inside the law of the country you move to - I see no problem continuing your own traditions, most will dissapair in a few generations anyway. Only a few traditions will survive over generations. Of course depending on how the country work on the integration. Doing nothing will slow down the procces of integrating.

There is a little Danish community in California (Solvang), most of the members of this comunnity have never been in Denmark, but they still do a lot to promote their Danish roots. But basicly I think they feel they are Americans. It might be even more importent in a relativly new country as the USA to know something about the roots.

Another thing is cultures that are very different then where they move to. They will proberbly still be talking Chineese in China-Town of LA in 100 years.
