For those of you who write stories. Do you find it hard to keep yourself to one story? Or if your creative mind wanders will you start another ,just because you had the idea? I ask this because I've looked into my hd and found I'm currently writing 12 different stories. This kinda took me by surprise ! Some are quite long others are in the beginning stages. Was just wondering if it's a common problem when writing?

I agree with you.. I seem to also have a lot of started stories or outlined drafts. Either they get placed aside " to be continued" or I lose interest and move onto another topic or story line. There are many on my HD that are not close enough to be posted... but too far along not to say." I'll get back to it someday". I have one I started in 1980' something, with no direction on where it is heading or concluding.

If an unfinished one is posted, everyone wants another chapter or a conclusion. I have seen it on the bumps from the past stories. Sometime the writer moved on and has to get back into the mind set of that particular story.

I believe we write just to get those thought out of our heads. and they keep trying to creep back in.

I sometimes think the muse departs and leaves us for to someone else and she takes her time to return to that particular situational inspiration.

Luckly there are now computer HD.. I used to have mine just on scrape pieces of paper.

no...YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

.Thank you for the ones you Have contributed.

I think everyone that writes stories has a similar problem. As you go along you find another avenue of interest that does not fit your current story, but would be another good story. What I do is jot down the idea and then keep them on my computer. Then when I am in the right frame of mind and can not think of a good story, I go to my list. It works for me.

It happens to me all the time, I'll start one story, and then a sudden inspiration will pop into my head, and start another soon, I have many different stories going on at once...lol
It's a common problem for creative minds, so don't worry about it, it just means you're doing good...lol

I find I have three or four stories going on at the same time, along with a billion ideas for others. Then I get a creative block and throw them all away!

Every now and then I manage to finish one and after a week or so I decide if I still like it… If I don’t, then I throw that away too, lol.

It is the same with music or art and is a strive for perfection, or at least satisfaction in what you have done.

I also find that as time goes on, I can’t even read the stories I have written anymore, as if I have abandoned it in search of better things.

My only cure is to force myself back on track and hope I pick up the inspiration again.

well it's not really nice to hear that, don't want you'll to think i'm happy about it. But at least i know i'm not the only one with this problem! Actually freaked me out to see that many " projects in the works" just sitting there on my HD.

Come on inspiration !!!!!!!!

Active Imaginations needs an outlet, hence pen to paper long ago, now it's just MS word, but to finish one project requires dedication, so just add me to your group. :)

Hell, I've come up with an idea for a story, and find several directions it can go. Coming up with good ideas is all part of being creative. But it's turning those ideas to fruitition that's the hard part.

IMHO the main reason that people do not post stories is that generally, very, very few people bother to post any thanks at all - writing is very time consuming.

It can be very dishearting to spend so much time for so little thanks - that the main reason I do not bother to post my stories any more.
