I love reading a mainstream book and run across a passage or two that makes me smile. I just checked out "Polgara the Sorceress" from the local library. On a literary note, it is only worth reading if you want to finish off the world of the Belgariad. I did find these two little gems.

(A beautiful young countess referring to her country's undersized ruler)

"We all have to be careful not to step on him when he's in the throne room. Do you happen to have a cure for minusculeism? Oldoran should probably take a double dose if you do. He's a bug, Polgara, so stepping on him's a natural reaction. Life around here would be much simpler if somebody'd just squish him and have done with it."

(and later the stunning Polgara, angry at another ruler's betrayal says)

"Just as soon as he comes across the River Camaar, I'm going to trample on his face until it looks as if he's just been run over by a plough."

Thought I'd share.

In the other eddings series (i don't remember the name..but it involved the character sparhawk), there was a back walking by a character they called *some name* the giantess. She walked on one of the knights who had slept in the his hammock wrong.
It was the 2nd book of the 2nd triology involving sparhawk, i believe. but it was definately in the 2nd triology.

ah-ha! Being an avid reader, the story about the giant sounded familiar, so I checked my personal library, some call it a living room, and the series is The Tamuli, book two is the Shining Ones. Just wanted to help.

livingfurniture-

do you know what page or chapter, off-hand? because i quickly flipped through it before, and i haven't been able to find it again.

Arkham, I'm supprised at you. That would be cheating. You'll just have to read the whole thing.(Of course the fact that I last read that book several years ago and my memory is questionable at the best of times has nothing to do with it)

Haha. I have read the book, livingfurniture. I've read the elienum(spelling? first series with sparkhawk), the tamuli, and i just recently re-read the belgariad and mallorean, as well as belgarth the sorceror, and polgara the sorceress.
I have the mallorean in my room at college, but I don't own the tamuli, as i really enjoyed the belgarid and the mallorean much more.

I was just looking for a quick way to find what i had been looking for. I had stopped by the library before and flipped through it to try and find it agian, but i just didn't have time to read the whole book.

But you don't seem to know exactly where it is either...so :-P

Giblet, old buddy!

Great catch! I’ve not read the book (nor the series, nor the author), but perhaps I’ll reconsider now.

Personally, I enjoy reading books with adorable, imperious women as central characters. I’ve some such series in mind, but I can’t recall at the moment the salient details. I’ll try to remember and post the info.
