Wow after looking I realized I 've actually been writing nine separate stories. All of them are work in progress . I decided to start posting this one and concentrate on just writing this one for a while . This is a work of fiction , any resemblance to anyone is purely coincidental .
I must tell you for those of you who have read any of my previous stories, you know they can become quite long . Also I'm not into heels, therefore I do not write about them So please don't ask .
" Guard Duty"
I'd been working as a security guard for a large and very high tech research and development company for about five years. I was hired and given the rank of sergeant immediately due to some special qualifications. I had made lieutenant after three years, mostly due to the fact that I was close friends with the security chief Ralph Neff. There was a note on my locker this morning that said to stop by and see him when I got in. I went to his office and we were joined by the manager of the facility Tony Connors. Ralph said " Tony and I have been working on something that will save the company loads of money. We're planning on creating a new security shift ". Then Tony said " as you know we're required to have a certain amount of qualification on staff at all times. Some of our clients require that we have a minimum of two people qualified as tactical response, two as paramedics and two firefighters. This isn't a problem during the week having an average of twenty security personnel per shift. But the weekend when no one is working in the labs is where we think we can trim the fat as it were ". I looked over at Ralph and could tell he was thinking the same thing I was which was " I already know all of this ". Then Ralph said " what we would like to do, well what we are going to do is create a weekend shift . The facility will go into a lock down Friday night and remain that way until Monday morning. Currently the weekend is covered by six guards per shift to meet the qualifications. We want to put two people each qualified for all three positions here for the entire weekend ". I quickly thought to myself that there are only maybe eight or nine people with all three qualifications, myself being one of them. Then Tony said " we have already begun installing some new security features that will make it pretty easy duty. The weekend shifts will start 10:00 PM on Friday and end 8:00 AM Monday morning. Those two personnel will be here for the duration. That comes to 58 hours, 40 straight and18 at time and a half. We figured it would save the company over a quarter million dollars a year ". Then Ralph smiled at me and said " so what do you think, are you interested"? I leaned back in my chair and thought for a moment then said " I'm interested, but I'm gonna need some more details ". Tony stood up and shook my hand and said " I'm glad to hear it, you and Ralph can work out the details. We'll be ready to go with this in about two weeks". Then he headed for the door and turned and said " keep me posted Tom, and captain feel free to make any suggestions you like to Ralph or myself ". As soon as he close the door I quickly turned and looked at Ralph and said " captain "? Ralph smiled and pulled a set of captain's bars out of his desk and handed them to me and said " put them on captain ". I quickly put them on my collar and Ralph said " effective immediately ". We spent the next three or four hours talking about the changes that were being made and what my responsibilities would be. I left his office thinking "this is gonna be very good for me ". I was given the task of choosing my own partner from the list of eight names Ralph had given me . I went straight to personal and had them pull the eight personnel files so I could review them. Ralph had told me that whoever I chose would also get bumped up one pay grade. I spent the rest of the day review the personnel files finally narrowing it down to three possibilities. But I didn't know any of the three and decided to interview each of them separately the next day.
The next morning I began interviewing them. I'd specifically chose these three because they were all single like myself. I didn't feel that a married man or woman would be right for the job, having to leave their family for the entire weekend. The first interview was with Robert Wright an older man who I had nothing in common with . I explained the position and he seemed half interest, but I was sure he was just playing along. My second was with Billy Lewis a young cocky man who was full of himself, but nonetheless interested . My last was with Missy Delone who had been working here for just over a year. This interview went the best of the three and she was very interested and more than qualified. I'd told them all that I would make my decision by the end of the day. I went up to Ralph's office to check in with him taking along the three personnel files I had. He looked through them and said " well I wish you had more to pick from. Have you made a decision "? I said " well, I think Missy is going to be my choice. I think our personalities will fit the best and she's very well qualified. The only problem I see is she hasn't been here very long and she's a woman ". Ralph laughed and said " well I wouldn't worry about that, we're all professionals. You need to have someone you'll be able to get along with being together for that long every weekend. Besides of the three I probably would have picked her too ". Then I said " I told them all I'd make my decision by the end of the day. Ralph was looking through Missy's personnel file and said " it looks like she went through the academy about the same time as Kenny did. Maybe you should go talk to him and find out what she was like in the academy before you decide ". I said " that's a good idea, Kenny and I hang out on occasion. I'll see what he thinks of her, personality wise ". Ralph told me where Kenny was stationed at today and then said " if you're going to choose her she's on the front gate today and you can give her these " and he handed me a set of sergeant stripes. I found Kenny and filled him in on what was going on. He laughed and said " I would have loved getting that shift, but I know I'm not qualified ". I asked him about Missy and he said " she's pretty cool and easy to get along with but.... " he paused and said " she's got sort of a cruel side ". I looked at him and said " what do you mean, and don't worry this conversation is strictly between you and I ". Then Kenny said " well I don't know if cruel is the right word. We were doing takedown drills on the mats in the gym she and I were partners. It was near the end of class and some of the class was breaking up when she took me down to my back. But instead of helping me up as usual she quickly placed her foot on my groin and applied some pressure and said " you're lucky there's witnesses or I'd finish you off "! Then she applied some more weight before moving her foot and helping me up ". I had a big lump in my throat upon hearing this and cleared it before saying " you sure she wasn't just messing around"? Kenny said " I wasn't sure, she had a look in her eyes like she was gonna do it. Then about a week later I stayed late with a buddy to put in some range time. I was leaving and as I walked by the gym I looked through the door and saw Missy and another girl whose name I can't remember on the mat. Missy quickly took her down this girl was no match for her, she might only have been 110lbs. At most. Then all of sudden Missy straddled her and sat down on her face and began smothering her. I watched in disbelief as the little one tried to push Missy's big ass off of her as Missy just laughed. She seemed to be enjoying herself and she looked straight at me and motion for me to come in . I quickly got the hell out of there ". I again and a clear and lump from a my throat as I said " well maybe she was just having a little fun. I'm not concerned about that were both professionals ". Kenny laughed and said " you may be right, but if I were you I'd keep an eye on her ". I thanked Kenny and told him to keep this to ourselves. I quickly opened her file again and look to the copy of her ID. It said she was 5ft. 8in. tall and weighed 160lbs.. I know these are accurate because they are updated quarterly. I quickly went to the front gate and said to Missy " well the positioned yours, if you're still interested ". Missy quickly said " oh I definitely want it. It sounds like a pretty good deal ". I pulled the Sargent stripes out of my pocket and pinned them on her collar and said " well congratulations Sargent. Tomorrow morning we'll begin learning the new system. She got a huge smile on her face and said " I didn't know there was a promotion involved ". I just smiled and said " I didn't tell anyone that I interviewed, I didn't want anyone doing it just for the promotion. You'll be assigned to me for the next couple weeks while we go over all the new gadgets they are installing. I'll see you in the morning ". I went up to Ralphs office and told him Missy and I would start going over the new systems in the morning.
The next morning Missy and I met Ralph In his office and the three of us headed up to the new command center. Our entire complex is surrounded by a national forest. It's probably 500 acres with a 12ft. high barbed wire and electric fence surrounding it. There are two main research labs and a large warehouse at the lower end of the property. There's an old fire tower up on the hill which overlooks the entire complex. It was left there by the park service from the days when they still manned fire towers. It hadn't been used for anything in years, but was gonna make the perfect command center. We climbed the stairs and and went in, there were five "techno-geeks " as I like to call them working inside. They were installing all the monitors and gadgets and probably had two miles of cable running all over the place. The tower was 30ft. by 30ft. with windows all around which made for a spectacular view in every direction. It also gave you a bird's eye view of the entire complex. It was pretty much empty other than the equipment they were installing. Ralph said " so what you guys think, how do you like your new home for the weekends "? I laughed and said " looks kinda empty right now ". Ralph said " well we wanna get all the hardware installed first ". We walked back and looked around the small kitchen/ dining area. Missy said " I didn't even think about food ". Ralph quickly said " the company is going to give you both per Diem. The two of you can decide what you eat and who does the shopping ". Then we took a quick look at the small bathroom which was pretty much a toilet and shower. There was a small room with a bed already in it at the back. I looked around and said to Ralph" I assume the company is going to furnish this also "? Ralph looked at both of us and said " we've got a couch, recliner, TV, VCR/ DVD player, microwave, cookware all brand new sitting in the warehouse. Oh and a new mattress for that bed and a small one for out here ". Missy said " why do we need the second mattress "? Ralph looked over at the five" techno-geeks " and quietly said " well we don't expect the two of you to stay awake all the time. The small mattress can go on the floor out here so one of you will hear any alarms going off ". Then I said to Missy" I've already read some of the manuals. This new system is really high tech, it pretty much runs itself ". Then Ralph said " well I have to get back to the office you two can start pouring over the manuals ". After he left Missy turned to me and said " I can't believe they're going to pay us to pretty much just hang out "! I laughed and said " well there are some things will have to do while we're here ". I filled her in on all the protocols that Ralph and I set up for we began reading up on the new systems. We spent the next week and a half most of time in the tower reading manuals and talking to a few of the " techno-geeks ". We pretty much knew the system inside out in the first week. I'll have to hand it to our guys who designed most of it, because it was very user friendly. The tower was pretty much done now including all the stuff they had in storage. The strange thing was that the system was only to be operational on the weekends. They installed motion sensors in all the buildings and all over the property. Infrared alarms and temperature monitors all over the labs. Not to mention twenty extra surveillance cameras and ten night vision cameras. It was Wednesday before the first weekend it was to go into operation. Missy and I met with Ralph in his office that morning. Missy asked him " why are we only going to use the new system during our weekend shift "? Ralph said " well with all those sensors and alarms on during the week it would just be chaos with all the people working here. So during the week it'll be business as usual. No one will even be allowed in the tower, except if they want to update the software ". I said " well that's nice to know that we will be able to leave some personal items there and not have anyone going through them ". Ralph said " well we don't want you two worrying about things like that. The tower will be locked up during the week and besides the two of you and I will be the only ones who has a key ". The three of us went through the protocols again. It was pretty simple we actually never had to leave the tower unless there was a problem. There were system checks that had to be done at different times and of course the paperwork to back it up. It would be up to my discretion whether we made rounds, which would pretty much mean shutting down all the sensors. Ralph Had actually told me earlier not to do it unless I saw something I didn't like. Missy and I had already decided that she would do the grocery shopping. Then Ralph said " well the two of you are off now until Friday night. One last thing Tony decided for the first weekend to have a technician in the tower with you two in case there any glitches in the system. I told him I didn't agree with it, but he insisted ". I looked at Ralph and said " well he's the boss. I hope who ever it is is bringing their own food ". Ralph said " I told him whoever's gonna be there better . I'm not sure who it will be but they know you are in charge ". Missy and I got up and left and walk to the parking lot together. Missy turned to me and said " I guess we can put up with a pencil neck geek for one weekend. I'll see you Friday ".
