Beware parking at night anywhere within several blocks around Harpo Studios. the home of the Oprah Winfrey Show. For the second time in 2 years, between 10PM and midnight, I was parked on Randolf Street. My car window was smashed and this time my toolbox ($1000 dollars in audio video hand tools) and a new hard drive in the box were lifted.

I have an SUV so no trunk.

If many of my major clients weren't downtown, I'd have no reason to go there!

Be afraid tourists! Be VERY afraid.

City life can be a rotten world, my friend....

DTD told thelantern yesterday that in New York - they'd steal the wheels off his house...:D :D

Here, we've had ladies sitting in a car at traffic lights in broad daylight, and some guy smashes her passenger window, reaches in, and grabs her handbag right off the passenger seat...!!

One guy tried something similar on an off-duty security guard - she shot him stone dead....Now, she's on trial for murder...!!....

Yup...cities can be rotten, indeed...

you think that's bad?

The other day I pulled into a retirement village here in Florida and stopped at a 4 way stop....

just as I was about to pull away, this old fart latched onto my window with his walker and reached in and stole my Old Spice cologne. I had to offer him an uneaten Prune danish in order to get it back

:D :D :D :D

I felt safer in downtown Chicago at 2 am than I did in downtown Detroit at 2 pm. And I was in Detroit one day and Chicago the next, so it was within the same timeframe.

In contrast, I have a friend who was born and raised in Chicago and man...does he have some crazy stories from the 60's and 70's...not a nice place at that period of time from his perspective.

I have visited Chicago several times in later years, and was also suprised how safe and nice it seemed
You know what we've usually heard about Chicago = crime
So it was amazing to see how friendly and safe it was in downtown Chicago

I remember in Chicago stumbling off our tour bus at around 2 am walking near the Sears Tower and looking into the river wondering how many people the mob disposed of there (not a pleasant thought, mind you, but that's what kind of stuck with me). Certainly alot of history, and as I mentionned earlier, I have a friend who was born and raised there so he gave me the heads up on certain things.

Based on my experiences with both Chicago and Detroit, I would take Chicago ANYDAY. I thought I was going to be killed in Detroit...at no time other than on the bus did I feel safe cause of a couple of things that happened to me. I dunno, maybe I have Detroit all wrong, but it wasn't a pleasant time I had there.

Where do you live, that you're that scared?

I mean I'm not saying Chicago and Detroit aren't bad..they are..very bad, in certain areas, but no offense you sound like a rape victim in one of those cities.

You ok man?

Aren't guns pretty much illegal in Illinois? At least in Michigan, it's not against the law to protect yourself.

actually that's a New York thing...the Chicago mob either buries them in some Indiana cornfield or just leaves them in the back of some car trunk.
