Okay, people....let's see if this is any better....here's what I did...

The database had gotten HUGE with all the pics in it. That was causing a major problem lately, as every time someone wanted to post some new pics (or almost any post for that matter), the software had to open this giant database and shove even more stuff in it....all this while hundreds of people at one time are browsing the forum and sucking up resources...

Soooooooo....I removed all pics over a month old and we are testing that for now...so far, it appears to have worked, but please give me your feedback if it's working for everyone. I just uploaded a couple pics with no problem and before that I could barely even post a sentence, let alone a pic!

Crossing fingers!

And another thing...

It's the loading of thumbnails that really slows this sucker down...you pic contributors please try this....

Instead of having giant threads with 50 thumbnails on a page, try and keep the thumbnails on any one page to 15 or so...this will accomplish two things..

1.) There will not be so may calls to the database at one time from one single page, helping to slow the server down.

2.) People will really slow connections won't be sitting on the same page so long, keeping the connections to the database open longer.

So....if you notice a page getting big with pics, instead of posting in the same thread, just start a new one, please...

Progress!

technical questions
John, how big is database?
Is there a possibility in forum configuration to break threads into pages with 8 posts (not 16)?

The database is very large :)

I believe I can break down the number of posts that appear on one page easily, but that's a waste of time and space for strictly conversational threads.....and if people can just watch their posting of too many images in one thread, it will help the issue enormously...

Hi John,

Thanks for the changes you`ve made. Posting and replying is much faster and I havn`t been `timed-out` yet.
I know you`ve been asked this before but would it be easier if the site was split into discussion, pics, stories etc as per the trampling forum.

Once again thankx :worship:
