is not available yet - sorry about this piece of mis-direction, but I'm at my wits end (yes, I know, NOT a very long journey)

I'm having some problems with uploading large files (ie over 500 kb) to any Yahoo groups.

The problem is definitely with them (I tried two computers with the same results)

Yahoo say they fixed the problem (didn't), and have now washed their hands of it.

Is there anyone who's read this message who has had a similar problem with Yahoo?

I can't share any more clips until this is fixed, and the yahoos at Yahoo are about as much use as a chocolate frying pan on pancake day.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I had the same problems with uploading, starting from tuesday last week! Yesterday I was allowed to upload 3 mb already, so let's hope this is only a matter of time. Bart;)

Hey - thanks for replying - I do hope it IS just a matter of time - and time will tell, I suppose? :(

If snybody else has had this problem and had it resolved - could you let us know, please?

Thank you...

Akamtos - thanks for the kind thoughts... It's VERY frustrating! I have several clips that I took quite a while to make - and now I can't share them! Well, I'll find some way, despite those Yahoo idiots.

By the way, I have already done more than several clips and uploaded them to various groups (before Yahoo fucked up their sytems, I mean).

I don't know if you are a member of these groups, but if you aren't you might want to join to see them?

They are...

Go to Smother Me Now yahoo group…

Go to Roman Video yahoo group…
LINK (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Romanvideo/ )

and...

Go to RomanVideo_Loves_TallGoddess_ONE yahoo group

My second message to them - after I replied that basically I wasn't an idiot who had trouble walking and talking at the same time, and I had <GASP> read and UNDERSTOOD the instructions on how to upload files. The reply I had was probably automated, and the person who sent it probably never more than glanced at the original question I sent to them! Anyaway, this is the second reply...

"Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Groups.

There are a few possible resolutions to this problem.

1) Deleting cookies: A cookie, also known as a "Temporary Internet
File", is a small piece of information generated by a Web server and
stored in your computer for future access. These cookies can help
identify who you are.

To delete cookies from your computer:

* Make sure you close all your browsers
* Click the "Start" button
* Click on "Settings"
* Select "Control Panel"
* Double-click the file "Internet Options"; a new window will open
"Internet Properties"
* Make sure the "General" tab is selected
* Under "Temporary Internet Files", click on the "Delete Files" button
* A confirmation window will pop open, click on "OK"
* After your Temporary Internet Files have been deleted, click on "OK"
to close the "Internet Properties" window

2) Clearing Cache: It is necessary at times to clear your browser's
cache. The "cache" is the memory your browser uses to store images of
the web pages that you visit.

Netscape:
* From the "Edit" pop-down menu, pick "Preferences"
* Click on "Advanced", then click on "Cache"
* Click "Clear Memory Cache" button, then click the "OK" button
* Click "Clear Disk Cache" button, then click the "OK" button

Explorer:
* On the "Tools" menu, click "Internet Options". The Internet Options
dialog box displayed below appears.
* On the "Temporary Internet Files" panel, click the "Delete Files"
button.
* On the "History" panel, click the "Clear History" button.
* It may take a couple minutes for the cache to clear. Be patient. Click
"OK" and reload the page you want to view in a refreshed form.
* You may have to use the "Refresh" button one or two more times to view
the edited file.

3) Netscape or Internet Explorer: If all else fails, you may want to try
using a different browser. If you are using Netscape, try using Internet
Explorer or vice versa.

Netscape:

Internet Explorer:

"Those suggestions didn't work. They were worth a try, but, as I have the
problem with BOTH of my computers uploading - and the problem started at the
same time on both, it couldn't be software errors. That would only effect
one computer. (My computers are stand alone and not networked)

I've always been able to upload files UNTIL this weekend, using exactly the
same software/hardware configuration.

To try to rectify/circumvent the problem, I've tried...

Using a different computer - my laptop, (using a different modem) but the
same internet account/phone line number.
Setting up a new user ID.
Clearing the internet history and temp internet files.
Waiting till 'off-peak hours. eg 2am GMT
Altering the settings (as in the error page displayed, below)

"The page cannot be displayed

experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings.

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is
spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click
Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings
should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator
or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set
Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network
connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this
setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then
click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have
installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings
can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On
the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL
2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer "

It can't be the internet browser I'm using - unless no one can access Yahoo
using IE 6.0? (which I've already used succesfully on Yahoo for almost a
year!)

Changing the browser is not convenient and would not work, anyway. If the
problem was on the hardware/software used on my PC, then it follows that I
would have no problem using my Laptop to upload to Yahoo. But the Laptop
experiences the same problem.

The only commonality between the two computers is...

A) I'm using the same ISP account.
B) My home telephone number.
C) I'm using Yahoo.

Everything else is different. If it isn't related to my ISP or tel number,
then logicaly it must be a Yahoo problem?"

It must have been a hell of a shock to Yahoo! A customer PROVES he is right and they are wrong! No doubt the men in black are on the way to erase the memory from my mind, right now! "Can't have people KNOWING that Yahoo SUCK, can we?"

Anyway, this was their next reply...

"Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Groups.

Thank you for your inquiry. The issue which you have brought to our
attention should now be resolved. You should now be able to use Yahoo!
Groups with functionality restored to normal. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused you, and we appreciate your patience.
If you are still experiencing the problem, please contact us again.

NO - SURELY THEY HADN'T FIXED IT ??? :)

"Nope, they surely hadn't fixed it" :(

My next reply to them...

"Regardless - it still DOES NOT work.

Do you have any constructive suggestions (not involving radical software
changes, by which I mean, using a different browser, etc).

Can you tell me, in detail, what the browser settings should be? (i.e.
Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - what ?)

I can't understand what the problem could be? It can't be my computer,
because as I've said, it doesn't work on both of my computers (which aren't
networked), and the problem appeared on both at exactly the same time.

I have also made ZERO software changes to my own system. In other words,
one day I could upload files, the next I couldn't - for no reason that was
readily apparent to me. It still MUST be a problem with your systems...

I'm using a slow dial-up connection (ave max of 28.8 Kbps). I run Windows
XP, using IE 6.0 and my anti virus is part of the "Norton System Works
2004" package. These are exactly the same used for when I could fully use
my Yahoo account.

As stated in my earlier messages, smaller files maybe around 500 Kb did
upload. It's appears to only be the ones that have a file size of around 4
Mbs that won't upload.

It's just occurred to me that, although I have made no changes to my
software, Yahoo might have been upgrading their software systems last
weekend - which may have caused the problems - obviously, I'm in no position
to know this (I have no in depth knowledge of computing) - but I know large
companies such as yourselves use the weekends to perform maintenance and
upgrades. Is this a possible explanation?

If you cannot fix it, then I should probably give it up, and start using
Microsoft's alternatives, I suppose?"

I don't know WHAT I could have been thinking. Obviously, they not going to dignify such a slur (ie calm, rational and logical questioning of their services) on their corporate character with a further reply.

"Who the hell do you customers think you are? We don't work for you! Go sit in a corner and think about what you said, young man!"

as I said in a message to a friend of mine...

"You know, I DON'T think they're going to FIX ANYTHING! The first reply to
my request for help was to blame it on me. When I proved that it was their
system that was fucked, they said that they'd fixed it... (they hadn't).
When I told them they hadn't, they said, basically "well, it works for us"!"

What was their old advertising slogan?

Dear "valued Customer"??? Ahemm.

MY reply - I didn't send this, but wish I had...

"I am NOT a valued customer! You can take Yahoo and {expletive deleted} {expletive deleted} {expletive deleted} OR {expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}, I don't mind which. Frankly, your {expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}is the worst piece of {expletive deleted}{expletive deleted} ever. What the hell do you people at "customer care" REALLY DO all day?

Have a {expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}{expletive deleted}{expletive deleted} nice day"

Oh, yeah - MERRY {expletive deleted} CHRISTMAS"

My actual reply...

"I am STILL having this problem - you say everything works for you but NOTHING has changed.

(KMM............................L0KM)
(KMM..............................0KM)
(KMM.............................L0KM)
(KMM.............................LOKM)

Their might be other refs, I don't know and am ceasing to care (It's been about 2 weeks since this problem started).

Your last message said, basicaly, "well, it works for us"

But the important point is IT DOESN'T for me. The problem was never with my computer(s), as you acknowledged. So there is NOTHING I can do to fix this problem.

Can you tell me if their is any chance I'll be able to upload files to any Yahoo groups again? Seriously, I need to know so I can start looking for alternative sites (Microsoft, etc)"

Richy first of all let me say that I am already a member of Smother Me Now, Roman Video, RomanVideo_Loves_TallGoddess_ONE and RomanVideo_Loves_TallGoddess_TWO groups. They are great groups and thnx a lot for all your effort to provide us such great clips.

As for Yahoo Services don't let them to mess your mood. Everyone knows that their customer service sucks. They never help you and their info is just craps. I don't think that cookies or cache is the problem.

Maybe it is related to the browser but I am not sure. I have had some problem access yahoo groups with a previous version of Firefox but the new version works fine.

I will suggest you to be patient for a couple of days and if the problem still exists then try another service. MSN groups are good enough and you can find some other sites with same services as well. http://www.smartgroups.com/ is a good site in my opinion.

Just don't let yahoo to upset you. Everyone knows that they have great technical problems. Do you remember that some groups have been deleted without reason in past? ...and they have never reply about it...

Take care and don't worry... ;)

Hey, Akamatos - good advice! :)

I've just been to the SmartGroups site, and it looks pretty good, at first glance - I'll keep them in mind! Thanks again - if i do start a group there, you'll be the first invited to join.

Thanks...:D

Richy my friend

Yahoo are wonderful with words
Yahoo sucks with doing what they say in those words.

these are all automated replies , do you realy think that anyone in Yahoo gives a damn about you? ( or me or anyone else )

and now for the good news : I finally succeeded in uploading 1 clip from your groups before getting ( again ) that message that I am not authorized...........:D

enjoy life
yosi

ps
if you write to Yahoo too much , they will delete your groups and cancel your membership , they did it to me........

Just to remind everybody. The problem started at exactly the same time, on both of my computers (stand alone machines - not networked). Between the time when everything worked to when everything didn't, I made NO changes to any of my software or hardware. This proves that the problem did not lie with my computers (even though Yahoo assumed it did, till I proved to them it didn't).

Yosi, I take your point about them canceling my account - I've given up on Yahoo for using groups for putting my own clips up to share.

Have you got any suggestions for alternatives?

MSN and Google groups don't appear to be much good. SmartGroups looks promising - but I don't know how many people will use a group I set up there (thanks to Akamatos for the suggestion)

I truly believe this is not a software problem, just covert harrassmant of people by Yahoo - if they find out you're into something other than "Christianity and moms apple pie", they take out their "righteous moral indignation" on you any way they legally (and illegally) can.

Thanks for the offer (sorry it took me so long to get back in touch)

I'll keep it in mind, but I think I'll keep trying to find something similar to Yahoo (MSN, maybe?), as I want to start other groups as well, that have nothing to do with facesitting (like a family site I can use to share pics with family members all over the world
_ I already had one at Yahoo wich I suppose I'll have to recreate somewhere else! which is more than a little FUCKING ANNOYING!!!)...

BUT I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR OFFER! I wish the people running Yahoo were as eager to help as you are!

PS I LOVE your thumbnail/Icon/whatever the hell people call the pic under their names!

Yours rocks!!! :) also the name "shutupyouidiot" reminds me of the first seven years of my life, when I thought that that was my name...
