What am I doing wrong when downloading from msn clubs? When I check my disk, all I have is a little box(es) with an x inside. Thanks for your help.

Heya...

Most likely you don't have the right program to open/view the files... maybe they are ZIP files and you need to get something like winzi (www.winzip.com)... choose for Extra/Folder Options from the menu bar in your Windows Explorer and on the second tab (View it is in English I guess) you can uncheck a checkbox Hide extensions for known file types... Now you can see what kind of fils they are... example movie.ram is a file you need Real Player to view it... some links to where you can download the necessary (free) software:

.zip or .tgz? check www.winzip.com

.ram or .rm? check www.real.com

.mov? check http://www.apple.com/quicktime

.avi's, .mpg's, .mpeg's and .wmv's can be viewed with Windows Media Player (check www.microsoft.com for the latest version)

If you have something different, let me know and I'll try to find what you need... remember, it's also possible the download did not work well and you may have some corrupted files you just can't open...

Good luck and happy viewing...

Danielle

If it's just jpeg's, you must be able to view them with almost any kind of program... Internet Explorer should do, just like any other internet browser like Netscape, Mozilla or Opera...

My mail is in my profile... mail me some of them and maybe I can tell you what's wrong or how you can view them...

Greetz..

This may a good place for me to post this -- ever since I loaded Microsoft "recommended upgrade" Q329048 for XP, none of my media players has worked properly, even after I uninstalled it, used system restore, and even reinstalled my OS. I do not know what went wrong, but the patch has apparently screwed up my entire system, and now I can not download any video clips properly (though I can view the ones I already have).

I hope this is of help to someone in avoiding problems.

Hi there, AirlineBuff. What is the question? are you downloading specific things or are you just visiting the site?
If you visit the site and you see small boxes with an "x" in it, the pictures that are supposed to be there are missing or not quick enough available.
When you see those "x" things and you right click on them choosing "save as..." then you get those pictures with the "x" in it on you disk.

What MSN group are you talking about anyway?

greetings,
Massage Rabbit.

Airlinebuff
Click "My computer" and up in the menubar click View\folder options\file types, in the list of files scroll to where the jpeg type is.
Click on it and click "edit", if there´s the word "open" in the action field click on it and then click edit, click browse and point to where you have iexplore.exe.
It should be something like this:
"C:\PROGRAM\INTERN~1\iexplore.exe" -nohome
Dont know what the -nohome is doing there though ;)
If you didnt have the "open" action in the action field click "new" and in the action field type "open" and point to where iexplore.exe is located.
Hope that helps.

Gizmo, if you don't even know what the parameter nohome means, why start explaining something that wasn't asked in the first place?

AirlineBuff, did you find an explanation or do you still need help?
say something.......

I should not reply but I can't help myself.......
Why on earth do you want somebody who clearly needs help on displaying pictures in a browser, to change vital settings in a windows environment that can cause the operating system to hang up on him if he even makes one typing error?

For your information: internet explorer displays pictures when available by itself, independent from the setting which program is openend by double clicking on the filename or link.
If you use Adobe photoshop or paint shop pro to open pictures on your system (or whatever photo-editing program of your choice) opening a web page will be done in your active browser including the pictures.
UNLESS the pictures intended on that page are missing at the server or cannot be provided by the server quickly enough.

And the -nohome switch as you stated you don't know where it's for: it starts internet explorer without loading the startup page defined in your internet settings.

(OK now I'll shut up).

Many thanks to all of you who took the time to write. The problem turns out to be simpler than I could ever have imagined--Netscape won't download the photos without the little boxed-x's, Explorer does. Propriatory?

Wonder if that figured into yesterday's settlement.

Again, thanks.
