Part 1 of the “Club”
Cindy had more pride in herself and she walked proud and self-assured. She knew that she owed this newfound confidence to her girlfriend Natasha. It was just over a week ago that Natasha showed up at her house and noticed that Cindy was depressed. Cindy had been in a relationship with her boyfriend for over two years but he had started taking over the relationship by slowly manipulating her judgment on little things to later when he made up his mind and Cindy didn’t question it. Natasha could see this and tried to warn Cindy of what was happening and where it was going. But Natasha had been unsuccessful in her attempts to show Cindy what was so plain to her. Cindy remembered vividly when Natasha came over that day and told her she had something important to say. The look of seriousness on Natasha’s face let Cindy know that she had best listen. “Cindy I have tried to tell you how I think you are so much better than Brad, but he has you so glassy eyed that you can’t see what is so plain to the rest of us. I am giving up on trying to tell you what you so don’t want to hear. But I ask you to do something for me, for yourself! I have joined an all women’s health club and when I signed up two months ago they gave me a weeks pass to hand out to a friend that I might think would either enjoy or benefit from joining. This club is not just about getting in shape but they can also help give you more confidence in yourself. Hear is the pass and all you need to do is give them a call and set up an appointment to meet with one of the counselors. They will ask a few questions of yourself then following that they will give you a tour. Please take this and promise me you will call them.” Cindy remembered those words vividly because that was the day her life changed forever!
After promising Natasha that she would do as she had asked Natasha smiled and then left. Cindy waited only a few minutes before making the call to set up an appointment at the Club. The very next day she was walking into the health club to meet with Susan. Susan’s job was to meet with potential clients and make sure that they would be comfortable with what the club had to offer. Because this club was unusual when compared to the standard health clubs that people were used to. Susan invited Cindy into her office, which was in the very front of the club next to the lobby. Susan first statement totally shocked Cindy. Susan told her that not one of the members had walked in uninvited and signed up, it was required to be invited by another member that way they insure that they received the right clientele. She also said that this wasn’t her main office but one that the staff uses to interview future members to make sure that the person coming to apply meets with their expectations of a qualified member. Susan also told her that she was in no way required to answer all the questions but if she didn’t she would be asked to leave and never be allowed to return. Most of the questions asked of her were standard type of questions asked by a health club but towards the end of the interview the questions took a turn from standard to very personal. She hesitated with each of these but answered them anyway. After about an hour Susan stood up and smiled and shook Cindy’s hand and told her that if she would like that Susan would take her on a tour. She also made her sign a document not to discuss what she was about to see with anyone not a member of the club with a penalty of a hefty lawsuit. Cindy agreed and walked with Susan through the lobby and into the club…
