Hi everyone, just a quick question to anybody that can help......... Does anybody know if on signing up for this board, third parties are given your email address, because almost every day i have received emails from different address about free porn etc, and it is really inconvenient to say the least! Some give you an option to unsubscribe or whatever, but on sending the email, another comes back saying that it ''cannot be delivered - this is a permanent error''. Does anybody know who sends these, why they send these, how they have got my email address, and most importantly how to stop them coming anymore. I hope somebody can help - please reply if you have any information. Thankyou in advance. ENGLAND

I have never received such emails. More then likely it comes from another website you browsed.

Depending on the account that you have, you can report them to the providers, and they will block them automatically. What happens is that sites use spyware parasites, and latch on to your system. You can download programs such as the Lavasoft Ad-aware, which might help.

You most likely have a cookie in your comp that whenever you access the net transmits to a server and that server picks up your email address then it is used to spam you
UNDER NO CIRMSTANSES REPLY TO THE SPAM this just confirmes that your address is valid and you will get more
Also DO NOT READ IT this also sends a signal that your email address is valid

USE a scan program such as adaware by www.lavasoftUSA.com (free) to keep your comp clean of trojan cookies

Note that some cookies work in conjunction with web bugs to snich on you too
I have NOT FOUND any on this site!!!

LOL...no, this site does not send any porn emails (I haven't even sent any Mistress Destiny newsletters out...next week!)...

Also, no 3rd parties are given the email addresses from here...

To get rid of your spam, you need to send a full copy of the spam including headers to the UPSTREAM PROVIDER of the web site advertised by the spam. The actual site is usually hosted by a front company, but that comany gets its connectivity from the upstream provider to whom you should complain. Just send a polite request saying something like "Please shut down the following spammer". To locate this upstream provider, got to www.samspade.org and either download their free software or just use their online program if you only have a few spams. You need to read their tutorial and then use the "IP Block" search to find the upstream provider who is usually somebody like Qwest or UUNET.

Most upstream providers will cut off connectivity once they receive over 100 complaints - let yours be one of them! It costs a couple of thousand dollars and a few weeks for the spammer's front company to find a new upstream provider. If you can get a network of friends to all send complaints at once, you can shut them down within hours. If you send a copy of the complaint to the front company, they will probably put you on a "do not send" list, which will stop most of your spam. But they also might mailbomb your email account, or do other revenge behavior. They can usually track down your home address, too, so have a care!

To remove all spam for ever, set up a new email account that contains the word spam as part of your address, such as "joesspam@yahoo.com". Spammers almost always filter these out, since many anti-spammers set up so called spam traps specially to entrap spammers and close them down for sport (BTW, this is a challenging and exciting hobby!).

Once you know how to work the system, the anti-spammer has a big advantage. Spammers are always presumed guilty, and enough complaints to the upstream will close them down no matter if the case has merit or not. You can find a list of known spammers at www.spamhaus.org.
