Would kind (and brand) of film scanner did you use to scan your negatives? The results are very good. The only experience that I have with a film scanner is with the one that was included with the last flatbed scanner that I bought. The included film scanner is very cheap and did very poor scans. I get the impression that you have to spend some money to get decent results with film and negatives. I have some slides and negatives that I'd like to scan.

My own scanner is not working for some reason so I'm getting the local Kodak shop to scan my negatives.
