You're doing all right. Best bet, get a camera with an automatic timer. Perhaps a professional photographer, or a VERY good friend.

Do you have a digital camera?
try using the tv jack cord to see your selves on tv then hit the timer on the camera

You could get a simple photo editor .. for example Microsoft Image, you might already have it on your computer.
Just edit the contrast and brightness levels…
