Completely OT post-my cat died Wed. night when he got into a neighbors yard ( after having snuck out) and was killed by their goddamn pitbull...I had Merlin for 1 1/2 years-rescued him from the street in the first place It is amazing how much an animal can end up meaning to ya....sigh....................
Now I need to lose myself deep in the crack of my friend J tomorrow.....then I suppose I 'll get another kitty

My condolences for your loss Rikkster. I know I love my cats...they are family! And your little guy lived a better and probably longer life because you rescued him in the first place.

Rikkster,
I owned a beautiful black cat that I had rescued from an abusive owner. I gave him the best 14 years of his life. It crushed me to put him down, but at 15 years of age,his renal system had grown tired. He was the coolest cat I'd ever owned. The little black cat I own now is working his way into my heart...he beats up my two dogs,or tries to. The dogs just lay there looking at him as he jumps on them and swats their heads! It's really quite funny to watch! The cat thinks he's putting a major ass-whooping on the dogs and the dogs think this little black bastard's a pain in the ass!!!!!!!! heheheheheheheheheheeee

Sorry to hear that buddy. I lost a kitty once when I was young. No lie, it got sat on while it was under a blanket on the couch by my older cousin. She sat down and squashed it and didnt even care.

I also have been a cat owner several times. Personally, I think the Pitbull and Rottweiler should be sent into extinction. They are useless and mean animals and the only reports you ever hear about them is an attack.

The wife & I have seven cats at the moment. We have been taking care of strays for years. We both love animals very much.
I'm very sorry to hear about you loseing your loved one.
I try not to get too close to them at this point but no matter what one does, it's still very hard when I must have one put down.
I had a cat named Kitty years back that was my little baby. I really loved that cat. In 1996 I had to have her put down. It damn near killed me to do it.
Pit Bulls are very mean creatures. It's what they are bred to be.
It must have been very hard for you to lose a cat like that. I like to think of myself as an understanding person but those dogs are just plain mean.
When ya find yourself another Kitty try to keep it in the house. With one of those dogs in the neighborhood you stand a good chance of losing it if you don't.
I know I'm repeating myself but; Those dogs are just plain mean.

Rikkster,
i know exactly how you feel, and i guess it's just an echo of comments already, but it really does feel like a hole is missing in your insides when something like this happens.
when my first cat died, 3 years ago, i absolutely cried my eyes out for ages......i just loved her to bits.
worse thing was, she had suffered a stroke a few days before, but was on the mend slowly. on the saturday, i had to go out to meet someone, and i had given her a bit of fuss before i left.
i don't know what it was, but i had a gut feeling that she was going to die that day, and i was very close to doing so.
still, i carried on with my days plans, and when i got home my brother was there crying, and my sister told me that suzy had died.
i felt so guilty for going out, it was unbelievable - i hated myself for a while after that.
still, 3 years on, i have two sisters, millie and molly, who are nearly two now (we've had them since 6 weeks) black and white, just like postman pats cat.
Rikkster, i'm sure when you get a new cat, things will be easier, but you'll never forget this cat.:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

In defense of the breeds...Pitbulls and Rotts are not "bred to kill" as someone stated earlier. Dogs are only products of their enviroment. If an asshole raises a dog, beating it and abusing it, yes the animal will be mean. If a dog is raised in a loving enviroment, and treated with respect it will be a wonderful dog!
Pits & Rotti's got a bad rap due to the urban scumbags that raise the dogs for mere protection. Dogs are subjected to daily rituals of abuse and forced to live in conditions that would drive a human mad! Of course these animals are going to be dangerous!
All dogs, much like men, need to be 'socialized' and brought up around other pets and people! It helps them avoid 'territorialistic'
behavior! No animals should be singled out as "killers"!!! Instincts and enviroments create the animal's personality! If a dog has to fight for its food, it will be aggressive! If a cat gets kicked across the room enough times,it will become aloof! Dogs and cats should be treated just like children! Raise them as you would raise your child and they'll be your best friend for life!
Ok,I'm stepping off my soapbox now...

having met the assholes who raised this one yesterday-I agree with the conclusion-a neighbor owns a Rotti-and he is the swetest dog there is-all 120 lbs of him-amazing
the ppl who own the pit that KILLED my cat are scum-they expressed no remorse, werent sorry-just defensive and bitchy-and they lied to me as well-grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i feel like having the dog put down just to teach them a lesson-sigh-wouldnt solve anything tho...

Rikkkster: I am really sorry to read about you losing your cat that way. I know how empty you feel. Some people can never understand how much so many of us really love our pets. I hope it can be of some consolation for you to know that so many of the people on this board are sending you their best wishes and sympathies.
