This may sound a silly question..but how do I access a FTP server?? I am quite new to this and have not got much of a idea...... thanks all.

i have found it easier to use a good ftp program than a browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape...but you can still access ftp servers using a browser.

The way to do that is by following this standard for ftp URL's

ftp://user:password@ftpserver/url-path

Using this standard with the ftp site listed, the link would be:

ftp://gast:trample@217.85.1.149/

i tried it but it didn't work...it did try to connect though.

i have used this before to access other ftp sites with no problem. if you plan on accessing a lot of ftp sites, i would get an ftp program like WS_FTP LE (http://www.ipswitch.com/_promotions/le_upgrade/le.html) or check out ftpplanet.com here (http://ftpplanet.com)

Hallo Teppich,

wie wäre es, wenn du dir bei dyndns eine feste Adresse zuweisen lässt. Ein Tool schickt dann nach jeder Zwangstrennung deine dyn.IP an diesen Serviceanbieter. Wir würden dann über den Namen deinen FTP ansprechen...

i asked Teppich to use a Service that transforms his static IP into a Named-Adress.
For those of you, who are not comfortable with FTP, I recommend using Smart FTP. There is a fantastic guide on their web-site as well.

Problems with timeouts, but otherwise the 217.85.0.15 addy works just fine
