Question about web pages like ALT.com

I was recently checking out websites, more in particular www.alt.com, that involve meeting others in the BDSM scene...
my question is: has anyone tried this? if so, how reliable/good is it? is it worth the money? any sites to recommend?

I tried alt.com once but got no response to my ads. Admittedly that could be due to the quality of my ad, but I read elsewhere on message boards a few other people complaining about the same thing. They also changed the set-up so my membership had to be upgraded, which I thought was a bit sleazy. I'd be interested to know what others who have tried it think about it.

I am currently a member of alt.com, and I can tell you it's a TERRIBLE service. The company lies about the number of members it has, especially female members. MANY of the profiles are duplicated two, three or even four times, and they count each duplicate as a separate profile!! Also, MANY of the women on the site are professional Mistresses or prostitutes. Some are upfront about it and tell you to reply only if you're "generous." Many are deceptive, though, and will ask you for money only after they've wasted a lot of your time in email exchanges and online chats. The site has LOTS of technical problems and almost never works properly. Frequently, your emails are never delivered. You may contact people and think they are not interested when you receive no reply, but if you follow up with them you find out they never received your first email. The worst technical problem is that the download time is often so long that the site really cannot be used at all. This is particularly true at the times you'll most want to use the site - evenings and weelends. Also, the site is full of spammers pretending to be women. When you contact them, they respond by asking for a personal email address. If you provide it, you will be placed on every porn spam list that exists! In addition, their customer service department is worse than you can possibly imagine. If you write with a complaint about the technical problems with the site, the customer service reps often respond with PRE-WRITTEN messages, and they DO NOT deliver your complaint to the site's programmers!! I strongly urge people to stay away from alt.com!!!

I must admit that alt.com has it's weak points, but in the past I have actually met two non-pro ladies that I have had a bit of fun with; nothing long lasting but interesting...The women to men ratio is not very good for the men and many or most of the women (at least in the greater New York area) are pro dommes. If you are looking for a pro (which I am not, actually I'm not really looking at all these days) it can be a decent resource, but perhaps not worth the money they charge. There are plenty of pro domme guides such as maxfisch.com that are free of charge.

I know the service sucks , and all that , but I DID meet my current girlfriend on ALT.com . It has done that much for me ! LOL So , slam it if ya want to , but it's helped me out , a little .
In all fairness ,I never joined the "paid membership" phase of it all , so I can't speak to that . I only placed one ad , and only got one response , and that was all it took , for me , to find what may possibly be "Mistress Right" . lol Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in the mix . :moon:

I too, was a member to alt.com. They would send me updates, supposedly matches, to my e-mail address. As it turned out, when checking out the "matches" not one was a match to my ad. I never received a reply to my ad.

I signed up for the year membership, and there was about 3 months out of the year that I never received one match. I let my subscription expire and did not renew it.

By the way, if you do subscribe, make sure you read how to keep them from renewing your subscription automatically. Unless you click on the "do not renew my subscription automatically" it will be renewed to whatever credit card you used.

As far as I am concerned, that site is just waste of money, and you get nothing but access to see photos, that is, when their servers are working properly. It is nothing but a rip off.

If you're looking for a viable alternative to alt.com, try www.bondage.com- registration is free and i can personally reccommend the service, having met my ex thru the site...
